In 2024, 57 percent of workers in healthcare and welfare reported experiencing aggression from patients or their relatives. This figure has remained nearly unchanged since 2020. Employees with a high workload experience aggression more often than those without. This is evident from figures of the employee survey conducted by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) for the Labour Market Healthcare and Welfare (AZW) research program.

Almost half (48 percent) of healthcare workers aged 16 or older experience verbal aggression, such as swearing or shouting. A relatively large group also experiences bullying (25 percent) or physical aggression (21 percent) from patients or their relatives (family or friends). Healthcare workers least often report threats or intimidation (10 percent).
