It has been noticed that coats have been stolen more frequently during nights out lately. Very annoying for the owner, but also for hospitality entrepreneurs who want to provide a safe and welcoming evening.
In March, the count for the year stood at 12 reports. The actual number may be higher, but not every stolen coat has been reported. The entrepreneurs and the police have set up a joint action plan. The Matrix board in the photo is part of it.
Decoy Coats
Locjassen or decoy coats are also being used. And with success. This coat with a GPS tracker was popular: on March 9, a 29-year-old man from Alkmaar was caught by the collar with a coat that was not his. He stated that his own coat had been stolen several times, which is why he took someone elses coat instead.
These decoy coats will continue to circulate in cafes and restaurants for now, so thieves are warned.
Public
Collaboration with the nightlife public is also important. Want to avoid having to go home in the cold?
Keep an eye on each other and report suspicious situations immediately to hospitality staff, doormen, security, or police.
- Try to keep your coat in sight and dont leave valuable items in your coat.
- Maybe placing a tag in your coat is a good idea. Then the location is quickly visible.
- Mark your coat (discreetly). If the police find a stolen coat, it can be returned to the owner faster if theres a name in it.
Together we keep nightlife safe and enjoyable.
